Finally the Trail

Enjoyed the rest of my stay in San Diego with Dustin. Had some good food and good times. Made my way up to REI to get a last few things before Matt came to pick me up. We met up there about five and made our way to Lake Morena. Decided to stay there for the night. Got to mingling with some people and ended up having a few beers and a little tequila. Still got up at five the next day to unwrap some of my gear and get everything loaded up. Got on our way just after eight for the twenty mile hike. The first couple hours all I could smell was the horribleness of tequila. I survived and we steadily made progress over the rough terrain of the first day. Ran into a couple bouts with bees. The first one we were just walking along and heard them buzzing. We ran and Matt said we were out of them. I kept thinking to myself I am not. I kept hearing a buzz. Finally, I started to unbutton my shirt. I got two buttons undone and a bee flew out. No sting, just banged my knee on a rock. The second one a bee just came up and got me on the ear. I survived. We enjoyed ourselves and made it to the end just a little parched. I supposedly moved a little quick for Matt, but we are working that all out . I was just zippy to get back to the kick-off party. We made it back in time but not in time for the burritos at 1730. We strolled in at 1830. A kind gentle named Roger offered to make us chicken, bean and cheese burritos since we helped a man with heat exhaustion. Met loads of people that we continue to pass and get passed by. Everyone is friendly. We stayed up until about three or so just meeting new people and enjoying the interesting stories people had. We missed out on breakfast the next morning, but I wanted to eat some of the weight off my back. Walked to the store and milled around about the area. We did make it for dinner. I chose a hamburger and we headed out near the lake to eat. I had to go number one pretty bad. Walked behind a tree, ready to flow and my body had other things on it mind. It let a little something else flow as well. Not one of my shining moments. I waddled from around the corner and Matt just started laughing. Everything was a okay after a couple baby wipes. Went to bed fairly early, so I would be ready for the next days hike. Got up about five, but didn't get on the road until just before seven. Made some pretty good progress until just before noon then we stopped at some trees in order to avoid the hot part of the day. Hung out there for about four hours. Felt amazingly refreshed when we started going again. Hiked with a pretty good group of people and Damsel's dog named Lucy. We settled down a little patch of grass with about ten other people. Sweet little spot next to the creek. Slept very well. Got up and moving today a little slower than whatI hope happens in the future, but I don't mind a nice relaxing morning. Made it Mt. Laguna for a couple dozen eggs with cheese and a nice rest. Getting ready to head out for more adventure. Will try and give more detail in the future. Not real sure how the Internet access is going to be with this iPhone.
